Chizel has been in the 3D Printing Industry for about 4 years now. With the recent launch of COCO 2.0 (Online Cloud Manufacturing Platform), we are seeing great response from the students, researches, innovators, and startups where they can now access manufacturing at click of a button. We are glad to share that things are moving in the right direction. Today, we are happy to announce that we have completely restructured the pricing on COCO 2.0!

What has changed with COCO 2.0?

COCO 1.0 Algorithm was driven by volume based pricing, which was an efficient costing algorithm on its own. But in order to drive the adoption of 3D Printing Technology & On-Demand Cloud Manufacturing, we had to make significant changes in the way COCO calculated the manufacturing cost. Earlier, we were computing only the basic COGS of the part and adding the markup. But we noticed that there were several parts that we had manufactured which were very streamlined and did not require manual intervention of any sorts. The pricing of these easy-to-process parts vs difficult-to-process parts was one and the same, thereby making the easy-to-process parts unnecessarily expensive. Hence, we are now moving from volume-based pricing to value-based pricing where our software now dynamically calculates the human efforts / operational efforts required to manufacture a part. If there is no value add, we simple add the manufacturing cost and display it to you, which is up to 30% less than the current market rate. With the advantage of automating the existing processes, we have been able to reduce human interventions in the manufacturing process too, which has also further contributed in reducing the price of 3D Printing significantly.

The new factors influencing 3D Printing Pricing on COCO 2.0 are:

  1. Material Consumption: The materials used for 3D Printing are very specific to a given process. The actual amount of material consumed & the support structure material used are primary factors in influencing the pricing. The 3D Printing process to be used will be dictated by the material chosen.
  2. Bounding Box Dimension: Bounding Box is an imaginary box drawn around your part with dimensions of the maximum values of length, breadth, and height. This plays a major role because of the space the part occupies in the build. Machine times are costly & hence Bounding Box dimension plays a vital role in the cost calculation.
  3. Post-processing: The amount of post-processing required is a key factor in deciding the costing of the part. Some other factors which influence the post-processing cost are layer thickness, Labor time, polishing, painting, & efforts and time needed in cleaning the support structures.
  4. The volume of Order: Depending on the quantity you order, we consider if thisis a batch production order or a prototyping order. Size of the order impacts the pricing!
  5. Uniqueness of a material: If it’s a regular material with high demand, we can essentially combine your parts with other customer’s parts and create more economical batches for manufacturing, thereby giving you a cost advantage of bulk manufacturing.
  6. Repeatability of a customer: For the first-time users, the rates are slightly higher. But the regular users get better pricing. This discounted pricing and the distinction between a first-time user and a frequent customer is completely controlled by our algorithm.

Result of COCO 2.0 Pricing :

The result of revised pricing compared with the previous pricing
With the new pricing, we are confident you can make more with less. What we have essentially done is optimize the supply chain, the manufacturing processes, order management, file repair, reduce the errors that happen on the shop floor, and optimized the order lifecycle using technology. We have made a transparent manufacturing system that gives manufacturing new skin.

The word that makes our customers come back to us. What drives us every day is the vision towards making manufacturing accessible to anyone and everyone. As a result, we have made our pricing structure much more transparent.
